How I made changes with Go365:
When I was told that I was going to be first time grandparent, the light bulb went off. I had to be around, I had to get healthy. As a HR manager, I also realized that I tried to set the example for everyone else except when it came to this program. With our first employee hitting Silver status, I knew I had to be next in order to promote this program. First I took the health assessment, talk about a wake-up call. My Go365 age was 14 years older than my real age. I knew right then and there I needed to do something and fast.
To be honest, I haven't seen much difference on the scale yet, but I have seen a difference in inches, energy and attitude. My body is changing and I can feel it when I put on clothes and when someone tells me I look great and they don’t even know I am exercising. I also feel an enormous amount of energy which I haven't felt in a long time! I get more done now than I did when I didn't exercise because now I have the energy and attitude to do it.
Go365 helps me every day. I like to compete so hitting Silver status was the first part of the journey. What I didn't expect is how easy it was; how the activities have become habits and how much I would love it. Each time I reach an achievement in Go365 or on my Fitbit, I am inspired to exceed it because I never thought it was possible. The energy that I can put into my family inspires me; the love of my family inspires me. My health is my biggest motivation. If I am healthy my family will be better for it. I have the extra energy to not only work 10 hours a day but to keep going for 4-5 more hours with my family and friends each day.
What's the Key Takeaway you'd like to share?
Start small. When I started a couple months ago, I was happy to walk five minutes a day. Each day I went 30 seconds more and kept cheering myself on. Today, I am happy to say that I typically complete 30 to 40 minutes of cardio 4-5 times a week. I will never be a "professional" athlete but I can be healthy. I think that anything worth doing has to have some sacrifice. I work 10 hours a day, take care of my family and home. Fitting this in seemed impossible, but then I started looking at wasted or "empty" minutes of my day. Like when I watched a mindless TV show, or sat on my phone; I thought surely those minutes would add up to time for exercising. Guess what they do!
If you fall down, pick yourself up. I like to participate in challenges and I realize that, 90 days ago, I didn't have the determination and energy to even think about participating in a challenge.
