How and why is there a delay in points awarded when data is showing in calendar?

I currently have a Garmin VivoactiveHR and a Polar device that I use for various activities.  They each consistently earn me points for calories burned, and the data and points update pretty quickly, within hours.  Except yesterday, I see data on the calendar for calories burned (Garmin and Polar), but I apparently have been awarded points for Polar only.  Based on the attached screenshot, I should have 30 points, not the 20 that I currently have for that day.  These were separately recorded activities, so it's not a case of the same workout being recorded by both devices.
